Choate P.C. practices exclusively in the areas of Estate Planning, Elder Law, Trust and Probate Administration, Asset Protection, Business Planning, and Special Needs Planning.  Our firm employs a personalized approach to providing legal advice, and we strive to provide a comfortable environment for our clients.  Each client is different and requires us to be good listeners, as well as creative, to determine the best plan for them.  We focus on understanding the objectives of each client and serve as a guide to them as they navigate financial, healthcare and estate planning. Nancy obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1987. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, (Elder Law, Estate Planning, and Probate sections), National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP) and the Madison County Bar Association. Nancy has received a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of AV Preeminent from her fellow lawyers. She is also a Master of the American Inn of Court, Jackson, Tennessee chapter, a legal mentoring organization dedicated to achieving higher levels of excellence and furthering the practice of law with dignity and integrity. Nancy is a frequent speaker on the subject of Estate Planning and Probate and Elder Law to senior adults and other select groups as well as business and financial professionals.

Nancy makes her clients feel comfortable by offering a personal analysis of their individual situation and goals. She is able to create documents to meet the personal needs of the client in a timely manner. Clients often express appreciation in Mrs. Choate’s ability to explain legal terms in “plain English” and to offer legal advice on complicated issues in a clear understandable manner. They also value the common central location of her office.

Nancy and her family reside in Jackson where she is active in the community. Her community involvement includes:

•  Past President of the Jackson Exchange Club and 2009 Exchangite of the Year

•  Past member of the Central Board of The Carl Perkins Child Abuse Prevention Center.

•  Leadership Jackson Alumni Association.

•  Union University Foundation Trustee.

•  2018 Sterling Award recipient recognizing the 20 most influential women in West Tennessee.

Nancy and her husband of thirty-five years, Curtis, are active members of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee where they enjoy singing in the choir. Curtis, a recently retired teacher, now serves as office manager for the law firm. They have two children, Anna, a graduate of Union University who now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, and Will, a graduate of Union University and currently a graduate student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. Curtis and Nancy enjoy traveling with their children and supporting the performing arts.

Mike obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1989 and his Master of Laws in Estate Planning from the University of Miami School of Law in 2000.

He is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and the Tennessee Bar Association, where he Vice-Chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Section. Mike is certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning by the Tennessee Board of Continuing Legal Education and has a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of AV Preeminent. He is certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning and is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Mike’s practice is generally limited to estate planning, charitable planning, probate and trust administration, non-profit corporations, and small business succession planning.

He formerly served as Director of Planned Giving for Freed-Hardeman University and Senior Vice-President and Trust Officer at Poplar Trust in Piperton, Tennessee.

Mike and his family reside in Germantown, Tennessee. His community involvement includes:

  • Past board member of HopeWorks, Inc., a Memphis non-profit organization dedicated to helping people enter or re-enter the workforce after having experienced personal setbacks as well as obtain their GED
  • Member of Germantown Kiwanis Club

Mike, his wife, Ilinda, and their two sons, Jackson and Josh, are members of the Germantown Church of Christ where he serves as a deacon. Mike works with the prison ministry at the Whiteville correctional facility. Mike and Ilinda enjoy spending time with their sons and University of Memphis athletics.
